Bergman Revisited
On 14 July 2018, Ingmar Bergman would have turned 100 years old. As we celebrate one of the greatest directors of all time, we ask how his legacy has affected Swedish filmmakers today. Bergman Revisited is a compilation of six very different films ranging from a Bergmanesque drama to an animated critical satire – all of them inspired by the mind of Ingmar Bergman. Our compilation features works by six directors: Tomas Alfredson (1965) got his international breakthrough with Let the Right One In (2008) before moving on to direct the highly acclaimed Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy in 2011. Lisa Aschan‘s (1978) feature debut She Monkeys (2011) was awarded at the Berlinale, and her second feature, White People (2014), opened to great reviews. Actress and director Pernilla August (1958) had her acting breakthrough in 1982 in Bergman's Fanny and Alexander, and directed the critically acclaimed Beyond (2010) and A Serious Game (2016). Patrik Eklund (1978) is an Academy Award-nominated director best known for his feature film Flicker and for various short films, which have been screened and won awards at various prestigious film festivals, including Sundance and Cannes. Jane Magnusson (1968) is an award-winning Swedish director and journalist. Her documentary Trespassing Bergman was selected for the 2013 Venice International Film Festival. Cannes award-winning director and scriptwriter Linus Tunström (1969) has headed one of Sweden's most prestigious theatres for ten years.
