The two sci-fi utopias, two thrillers, and one horror flick in this program are an invitation into the dark world of cinema that this Paris-based production company (whose audacity is literally inscribed in its name) has been systematically creating since 2012. Over the past six years, the company has brought to life 20 short films that have been shown at more than 600 festivals and earned more than a hundred awards. They are films that all exist somewhere “on the edge” – they often work with typical genres such as horror, thriller, sci-fi, or fantasy, but they do not necessarily meet all the usual rules of these genres. Besides the chilling entertainment that we usually expect from such films, they also produce a significant sense of unease thanks to the questions that they leave hanging in the air.
