International Competition 3
The third competition block includes two French films. Long Live the Emperor is a study of a relationship in a very unconventional setting, while Get Up, Kinshasa! is a refreshingly straightforward and energetic comedy about African children and their inventiveness in the face of senseless rules and institutions. The world is viewed from a completely different perspective by the heroines of the formally unusual Dutch film AMOR about four friends and one day of idleness. The Japanese film Signature has a wholly different rhythm, set by the unnerving question of why is a young Chinese man with headphones wandering through the streets of Tokyo, and the Belgian comedy Downside Up toys with the idea what the world would look like if all people had the Down syndrome and it would be those with the right number of chromosomes who would be considered mentally impaired.
