Jirka Skála
Labo Jury

Jirka Skála is an artist, writer, and university lecturer who has long lived and worked in Prague and Brno. In his art, he focuses mainly on photography, performance, and video. He also writes essays and short stories. Most of his efforts involve topics relating to the transformation of labor and free time in Eastern Europe. In particular, he looks at how these two areas are interrelated and in what ways they are becoming new forms of exploitation, domination, and denigration. Through his art, he then tries to find apposite forms of resistance and powerful visual metaphors.
