International Competition 2: Rock, Paper, Scissors

The popular children’s game offers one important lesson in philosophy. No matter whether we’re convinced that the right choice will ensure our victory, or we just go for chance, we only partially have our fate in our hands. As the five films in this block show, any second can bring on a situation that, if we are to manage it, requires more than just closing our eyes. There are moments that most closely resemble Russian roulette, and few things will upset our personal universe more than a suddenly acquired supernatural ability. Our world is not for sissies, and we must count on absolutely anything – sometimes, unfortunately, that the expected sign will never come.

This year’s international competition features 25 films from 22 countries, and the jury will present one of them the award for Best Film, which comes with a 2,000-euro financial reward, as well as two Honorable Mentions.
