Jian Luo
Jian Luo was born in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. She graduated with an MFA degree in film directing from NYU, and holds a BA in sociology from China Women’s University and a BA in film and video studies from Purdue University. At NYU, Layla directed and edited her short films Nobody Says I Love You, Cheongsam, and Ghost Tour, which were selected by numerous international film festivals. Her latest film, What Do You Know about the Water and the Moon (2019), was shown at the 2019 Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, BFI London Film Fest, and Stockholm International Film Fest, among others, and won the Special Mention for Best Student Live-Action Short at the Palm Springs International ShortFest.
