Czech Short Films 2023

The Czech Short Films collection is our annual selection of the best short films that the Czech Republic has to offer foreign festivals. As in the past, we’ve prepared a colorful meal accompanied by a heaping portion of festival laurels: a mixture of qualitatively and stylistically international films, nevertheless flavored with domestic themes. Would you like a political Czech-Polish potato salad, or do you prefer carp that eat human flesh at Christmas? Child characters utter neo-Nazi slogans, and the former best Czech dancer Jan Minařík demolishes an elevator in a retirement home. Naturally, alcohol is a subject as well, and for desert we serve up a film about pipelines in Ústí nad Labem! Don’t miss this cinematic warm-up before the awards ceremony and party at Kino Pilotů.
