International Competition 4: Of Girls and Dragons

Dragons are beings that know how to fly, breathe fire, and are usually very strong. Since time immemorial, they have appeared in stories as metaphors for things at once fascinating and dangerous. They liked to kidnap young maidens, and the heroes who wanted to free them had to engage the dragons in fierce battle. The heroines of the films in this block are fascinated with dragons in their own way. Sometimes they are surprised at their strength; sometimes they let themselves be carried off by them – metaphorically, of course, although in the case of the Mexican film What Do Dragons See in Girls Like Me, literally as well.

This year’s international competition features 25 films from 22 countries, and the jury will present one of them the award for Best Film, which comes with a 2,000-euro financial reward, as well as two Honorable Mentions.
