Brotherhood

Mohamed, a hardened shepherd living in rural Tunisia with his wife and two sons, is deeply shaken when his oldest son Malik returns home after a long journey with a mysterious new wife. Tension between father and son rises over three days until reaching a breaking point.

Meryam Joobeur

Meryam Joobeur

Meryam Joobeur is a Tunisian-American writer/director and a graduate of the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montréal. She has made three short fiction movies – Brotherhood (2018), Born in the Maelstrom (2017), and Gods, Weeds and Revolutions (2012) – and is currently developing three feature films, including a feature version of Brotherhood. Meryam participated in the Berlinale Talent Lab, TIFF Talent Lab, and the Rawi Screenwriter’s Lab. Brotherhood was selected as the Best Canadian Short at the 2018 Toronto IFF and the 2018 Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montreal and won the ZBK Audience Award at Winterthur ISFF, among other prizes.
