We Love Barry Keoghan
Dublin native Barry Keoghan has quickly acquired a reputation as a highly talented actor of his generation. He gained international recognition thanks to roles in The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) and Dunkirk (2017), and his distinctive and multifaceted talents were on display in the critically acclaimed The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), which earned him an Oscar nomination for his poignant portrayal of the sensitive Dominic, and in the provocative cult hit Saltburn (2023), which garnered him nominations for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award.
In addition to his work in feature film, Keoghan has also left a mark in the area of short film. Our selection includes four shorts that not only confirm his naturally born talents but also let us see Barry in his youth; shot in 2013–2016, they also offer a look back at British and Irish cinema of the last decade.
Candy Floss is a genre love story set at a funfair full of colors and carnival attractions. Wasted introduces us to an unusual group comprised of two teenage boys and a thirty-year-old woman who is the center of their attention. The touching family drama North, which captures a mother-son relationship during a difficult period in their lives, presents a lesser-known side of Keoghan’s acting talents. A subtle social drama set at a location typical for films from the British Isles (a suburban housing estate) and again with Barry as a teenager in live – that is For You.
English spoken screening with Czech subtitles.
