Developing Young Talent for International Market (Jason Felstead, Jára Moravec)

Producer Jason Felstead, co-founder of the Hamlet production company, frequently collaborates with young directors from around the world, helping them to make their name on the global market. In his presentation, he will discuss the strategies that he using for talent scouting and will also focus on how young filmmakers can compete in a globally interconnected marketplace. Joining him in discussion will be Czech director Jara Moravec, who has shot several projects for Hamlet.

Jason Felstead started out in the film industry as an outsider. With a background in fine arts and industrial design he started out as a producer at Milly Films and rapidly worked his way up. In 2013 he was asked by Caviar to expand and lead Caviar’s internationalisation and was responsible for handling and developing new markets. Having played leading roles in international production company networks, Jason Felstead and partner and friend Ruben Goots decided to join forces in 2015 to develop a high-level production company and so HAMLET was founded. In 2018 HAMLET opened an office in Berlin, followed by the opening of a new HAMLET branch in early 2020 in Shanghai. In 2021 Jason and Ruben teamed up with Executive Producer Clément Martorell to expand HAMLET onto the French market by opening a Paris office. Throughout the years, Jason collaborated with top-of-the-game directors such as Ian Pons Jewell, Ben Strebel, Jaco Van Dormael, Reynald Gresset, Wolfberg, Jara Moravec and Karim Huu Do to name but a few. Jason worked for clients such as Nissan, Nike, Uniqlo, Lidl, OPPO, Coca Cola, Ford, and agencies such as BBDO, W+K, Vice Vertue, TBWA and Dentsu. Awards garnered with commercials produced by HAMLET founders Jason and Ruben over the years include Cannes Lions Gold, Silver and Bronze Lions, Eurobest Grand Prix, Cristel Festival Grand Prix, New York Festivals Grand Prix, Clio Gold and many others.

Jara Moravec was born in Prague, Czech Republic, and spent his teenage years roaming the outskirts of the city on his BMX bike. That is also where he got his first experience with the camera. Later, he enrolled in a photography class, and after graduation Jara moved to London, where he started his directing career shooting music videos and commercials. After that, Jara moved to Berlin, and five years later he moved back to Prague, where he is based now. During this period, Jara experimented with photography, film, music, light installations, and performance to find his own voice, which has infused his work ever since. Since then, he has established himself as an international filmmaker, shooting campaigns for Adidas, Shell, and OnePlus, among others. Jara’s work ranges from music videos to commercials, and he has been actively developing his personal projects as well, winning festival awards and Vimeo staff picks for his specific style of visual narration, which mixes deadbeat humour wuith unusual camera techniques.
