Amnion
In this film, the amnion – the fetal membrane protecting the embryo – becomes a metaphor for an intimate space for sharing pain and seeking a path toward healing. From the outset, this sensitive portrait of three women whose lives have been marked by sudden separation is borne aloft by a meditative soundtrack that creates a setting in which personal experience becomes expressible. Ritual gestures – folk costumes, cooking together, embracing – produce a protective shell that allows pain to be not only expressed and shared, but also transformed.
