George Lucas
George Lucas (1944, USA) studied film at the University of Southern California, where he made several short films including THX-1138: 4EB (Electronic Labyrinth). In 1969, he co-founded a production company called American Zoetrope with Francis Ford Coppola. The company’s first project was the feature length version of the successful THX-1138: 4EB (1971). After finishing American Graffiti, produced by his own company Lucasfilm, he started working on the screenplay for Star Wars and founded ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) to produce the visual effects needed for the movie. Star Wars, rejected by several studios, went on to break all the box office records winning seven Oscars and complete financial independence for Lucas. He continued working on the Star Wars series as a director and producer and with Steven Spielberg created a second successful series – Indiana Jones.
