Tourists lie on the beach without a care as the island burns. Realistic comments by holidaymakers and glossy advertisements from travel agencies complement this tragicomic scene and invite the audience to think: how far will we go to maintain the illusion?

Viera Čákanyová
Viera Čákanyová graduated with a degree in documentary film from FAMU, Prague. Her debut Alda (2009) won Best First/Second Film at Visions du Réel. Čákanyová gained international recognition for her loose post-human trilogy, of which FREM (2019) and Notes from Eremocene (2023) premiered at Berlinale and were screened at or won awards from more than fifty international film festivals worldwide, while White on White (2020) won the main prize at the 24th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival and the Green Prize at Dokufest Kosovo. A complete retrospective of her work was shown on the VOD platform Tënk in 2023 and at the Taiwan IDFF in 2024.
