Florence Miailhe
Florence Miailhe graduated from the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs with a focus on engraving. Her films are created directly under the camera through the constant overlaying of materials such as paint, pastel, or sand. She directed her first short film, Hammam, in 1991. On the First Sunday in August was awarded the César for Best Short Film in 2002, and Conte de Quartier won special mention at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. Miailhe has also taught at a number of different animation schools (Gobelins, ENSAD, La Poudrière) while simultaneously continuing her work as a visual artist. Most of her films were written in collaboration with the writer Marie Desplechin. Their feature film La Traversée received the prize for best screenplay at the Festival Premiers Plans in Angers in 2021.
