The Power of Music in Storytelling (Jan P. Muchow)
Leading Czech musician, composer, and producer Jan P. Muchow has created numerous pieces of original music for film and advertising. Music plays a key role in the emotional mood of any audiovisual work. Muchow’s lecture will tackle crucial topics related to music, including relationship to the narrative of short formats in advertising and beyond. How can different types of music affect the emotional impact of a story? What does the process of creating music for advertising look like from the initial brief to the final outcome?

Musician, composer, and producer Jan P. Muchow has been one of the most influential figures in the Czech music scene in recent decades. In 1991, he founded the band Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, with whom he released five albums. Their album Slowthinking won an Anděl Award in 2002. Muchow has created the music for more than ten Czech films, earning the Czech Lion Award for One Hand Can’t Clap, Grandhotel, In the Shadow, and The Lake. He also composed the music for the films Men in Hope, Whisper, and Loners, where he also played a supporting role. He occasionally plays concerts with the band Umakart, with whom he wrote the song “Půlnoční” for Václav Neckář.
