From Balkan With Love

The Balkans Peninsula has always been a meeting place of cultures and religions as well as a bloody warzone. At the same time, it became known for its dark humor, emotions and open-heartedness of its inhabitants. All these influences are reflected in Balkans cinema and Balkan films are very successful at international film festivals all over the world. This year, we present a selection of six films, including those that have been screened at Cannes, Venice, Toronto or Locarno film festivals. We want to present the region through the most original work of the past years, and through a diversity of genres – from dark comedy, to family drama, to thriller. Memories of war or the fear of refugees mingle with specific humor, underscored by the songs of muezzins.
