A diverse types of people meet in a café and speak very similar “words”. An inovative film of this extraordinary artist has gone all over the world, won many awards and was even nominated for an Oscar.

Michaela Pavlátová

Michaela Pavlátová (1961, Prague) studied animation and since the early 1990s her work ranks among the top of Czech animators and directors. Her short film Words, words, words (Řeči, řeči, řeči, 1991) was nominated for an Oscar and was awarded at film festivals in Montreal, Tampere, Hiroshima and Stuttgart. Her next short Repete (1995) won the Golden Bear award at Berlinale. In 1999 she contributed to the antology film Prague Stories (Praha očima… ) and four years later she made her feature debut Faithless Games (Nevěrné hry), which won an award for emerging authors in San Sebastian. Her second feature Night Owls (Děti noci) received actor’s awards at the 2008 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Apart from directing, she also teaches and acts. Her last short animation film Tram (Tramvaj, 2012) was screened this year within the Quinzaine des réalisateurs section in Cannes and was awarded at the prestigious festival in Annency.
