Coffee & Allah

Abeba, a young Ethiopian Muslim woman, has just moved to a small New Zealand town to be closer to her relatives. She worships freshly roasted coffee, Allah, and a good game of badminton.

Sima Urale

Sima Urale moved to New Zealand with her parents in 1974 where she studied acting and worked for two years as theater actress. In 1991 she was accepted to the Victorian College of the Arts Film and Television School and after graduating made short film O Tamaiti (1996). The film won many awards including the main prize at the Venice festival. Her following short films Still Life (2001) and Coffee & Allah (2007) were also very successful. She just finished her first feature film Apron Strings.
