Vinegar Baths
After a difficult day, the hospital corridors have emptied and the midwife can finally eat her meal in peace. But with the late hour, one’s hunger grows, and people sometimes succumb to strange whims… A modern version of the myth of the penanggalan, whose nocturnal wanderings, concluded with a healthy vinegar bath, are the stuff of nightmares of people throughout Southeast Asia.

Amanda Nell Eu
Amanda Nell Eu was born in Malaysia. Since graduating from the London Film School with an MA in filmmaking, she has directed short films in the UK and Malaysia. Her short film It’s Easier to Raise Cattle premiered in 2017 in competition at the 74th Venice Film Festival. Amanda is an alumna of the Berlinale Talents Campus and the Locarno Filmmakers Academy. She is currently developing her first feature film, Tiger Stripes, set in Malaysia.
